With 19 games left, it seems to me that the absolute least amount of wins the Flyers will need is 14. Funnily enough, it will likely be what happens during their 5 days off that determines a lot of what ultimately happens to this team, as the 5 day respite will see most, if not all, the teams they need to leap frog catch up to them in games played.

Can a team that hasn't won 3 in a row all season long pull off a 14-5 record over the next 6 weeks? It seems highly unlikely, but if they can pull it off, they will be incredibly hot at just the right time.

Three point game in Toronto and Winnipeg as well as the Islanders winning isn't a good start today. The Rangers did lose. But you're right with the break with other teams making up games in hand. I just hope that's something I am more worried about than they are. They need to worry about winning games and playing smart hockey. Easier said than done, but simplicity a lot of the time is just not beating yourself.

At the risk of being some sort of annoying optimist....the Kings did it

It's been shown lately, (not just the kings run) that all you need to do is somehow get into the playoffs.

I think 13 wins (or any equivalent of 26 points) gets them to 53 which appears to be be this year's magic number. I think they will be pretty certain by April 3 if they have a good shot of making it.

Missing the playoffs in a lock out shortened season does have some up side.

The Flyers have great young talent. They have some salaries and older players that are not part of the long term direction the team must follow. They also need an upgrade on defense. By this time next year, all the frustration of this year will be forgotten if Holmgren is able to make a few key moves over the next 6 months.

This is going to be a very good team for a very long time.

I'd rather bouwmeewter at least he only has one year left. He's a guy that had pick moving ability that can be a solid piece to our back end for years. He could be had cheap Bc Calgary wants some flexability

I'm not sure that Calgary trade's jbow. The guy eats up most of the minutes on the team and is playing closer to the days of florida under the new coaching philosophy.

The rumors are out there. He'd be a solid pickup that too many people dismiss. Basically replace Briere with him cap hits being equal

if we are willing to gamble - and that's a big if- myers has a higher ceiling. no, he'll never skate as well as JBo, but many other areas of his game offer a higher upside.
he's younger, more physical and has offensive upside. he got paid too soon and now he's lost confidence. i don't see many opps for us to get out of our D fix...he may be one of them.

JBo has a clear ceiling at this point and he just doesn't seem like a very competitive guy. just shows up, does his job, doesn't seem to raise his game.

Calgary would have zero interest in briere but I don't think that's what you meant. Jbow IMO would be an upgrade on coburn but at a higher cost.

That's the thing. Coburn may be struggling right now. But playoff time is when he morphs into a monster back there. Not giving that up

Myers. I'm lukewarm if we do that I'd ship grossman or l schenn somewhere which I'm not dying to do

that's the $64K question. if they are doing a radical overhaul, it's likely that it will happen over the summer. i'm not willing to part with any #1 picks, but after that, i'd have to look at their roster and prospects and put something together.

in retrospect just think...trading coots could have gotten us Weber.

I'm ever tr optimist too but I just can't see this happening with how inconsistent they've been. Even a 13 and 6 runny not get u in with all the 3 pt games like Toronto and Winnipeg last night. Unfortunately this looks like a worst case scenario. A 9 to 12 finish and low odds for a top pick.
